YOU ARE GOING TO GET MUDDY!!!

This may or may not come as a surprise but in order to get those flawless images in the water, or look ethereal in the nearby bog, it requires getting messy! Almost all of my ethereal session are in the heart of the forest, or deep into the swamp, or a long walk down an abandoned stream. To create art you need to adventure into nature and find the untouched woodland places!

Videoed here is my candle crown session with Lena who not only braved the early morning chill, and walking around a swamp, but also had no problem wearing a crown of lit candles!

You are not alone!

Don't forget that you are not alone while you're swimming in rivers, or wandering through thickets in the forest I will be right there with you! These sessions are not only meant to be about capturing these whimsical moments but also giving you a once in a lifetime experience! It is my goal above all else to make sure YOU HAVE FUN! Treat this as a unique getaway to be immersed in the wild woods and be connected to the forest in a way you never have before.

It's not always pretty

Hannah is a friend/ client I have had the pleasure of getting to know, and recently we both adventured into the Adirondack mountains in early Spring for an extended weekend. We spent out first night sleeping in the back of my truck on a blowup mattress sleeping under the stars and waking ourselves up in the morning in the frigid water of Lake George! The water temperature was 54 degrees at the surface and 48 just a few feet below, needless to say IT WAS COLD!! However that did not stop us from getting these unreal images of Hannah and we both braved the cold water increments at a time to grab these shots. Keep in mine I will not recommend my clients do something like this, however it is good to ask yourself, what is your comfort level? How far will you go?

Water

If you resonate with water images and are up for a day spent in a waterfall, river, lake, or more here are some tips to prepare:

  • Bring extra clothes to change into, this may go without saying but what you shoot in will get wet and it wont be comfortable to stay in when you drive home
  • A towel or blanket does wonders on cooler days or in cooler waters to warm up between shots
  • Have your comfort submersion level in mind before we begin! Let me know how wet you plan on getting before the session so I know how to best pose you/ assist you
  • Keep your outfit easy to move in, flowy fabrics and loose attire works a lot better in water than something tight which has a tendency to get even tighter in water. also wear something you are ok with getting wet/ dirty.
  • DONT WEAR SHEER WHITE! Do I have to explain this one?

walking

Every session, no matter what kind, requires some level of walking/ hiking to get to said location(s). Depending on how deep into nature we get, these are some ways you can be physically prepared:

  • Proper footwear is a must. I understand you may have some awesome shoes you want to wear for photos, but be sure to have footwear to walk in as we adventure to our location, no one wants to hike in heels.
  • If you have any medical conditions that hinder your ability to walk or hike for an extended period of time, please be sure to let me know this information ahead of time so we can pick a location that best suits you!
  • If you have several outfits/ props you want to bring along, be sure to have a bag to put these in. You don't want to wander around the woods with a pile of items when its easier to put it in a backpack so your hands are free

Woods

The Forest is a wonderous place for images, and it can hold some of the best beauty, however it does come with its unique challenges. Here are some tips to be best prepared for the woods:

  • Bugs exist- Its the woods, which means mosquitos will be there, if you want to have a better level of comfort be sure to put on bug spray or have some with you!
  • The terrain is not always even, be sure to keep in mind that perfect walking paths will not always be available and some meandering can be required
  • Dirt, mud, and thorns can create stains or rips. When picking your outfits remember that you may get dirty; mud usually washes out no matter what, but if you are super concerned with an outfit getting damaged it may be best to pick a different one
  • Last but not least, when we are done, check for ticks!
